Coast and Castles Cycle Ride, 29th–31st May 2010

Hamsterley Trailblazers are planning a supporting trip covering the Coast and Castles Cycle Route between the 29th - 31st May 2010. Places (limited to about 16) will be allocated on a ‘first come, first served basis’ to Trailblazer members.

The ‘Coast and Castles’ is a 200 mile Sustrans cycle route from Newcastle to Edinburgh. The plan is to complete the ride in 3 days and a good standard of fitness will be needed. The plan is as follows:-

Day 1, Sat 29th May Newcastle to Belford (approximately 78 miles)

Day 2, Sun 30th May Belford to Melrose (approximately 62 miles)

Day 3, Mon 31st May Melrose to Edinburgh (approximately 55 miles)

Accommodation will be in an independent hostel in Belford and then youth hostels in Melrose and Edinburgh. A mini-bus and bike trailer will be available for transporting bikes, luggage and people to the start and transport back from Edinburgh, plus carrying luggage between overnight stops.

The cost will depend on the final number of people going but will be in the region of £80-£100 each for the whole ride including accommodation and travel but excluding meals. Food will be available at the hostels and local facilities. A celebration night out is planned in Edinburgh on Monday 31st May.

The cost of accommodation is approximately £60 per person which needs to be paid up front and will be non-refundable. We will need to book hostels as quickly as possible due to it being a bank holiday weekend with places filling up extremely quickly.
