From Norway to Malta
by tandem
by Neil Gander
You might think it’s a long way from the visitor centre
to Dangerous Descent but that’s nothing compared to what
club members Neil and Kathryn Gander managed on their tandem over
the last year.
They set off last August from Nordkapp, Norway, Europe’s
most northerly point - and rode all the way to its southernmost
tip in Malta (with a bit of a break in the winter).

That’s 7,843km altogether, if you’ve ever wondered.
Now Neil is trying to turn the whole adventure into a book, which
is taking much longer to write than it did to ride.

THE STORY SO FAR: Our heroes have crossed the Arctic Circle and
are making for the Gulf of Bothnia, which divides Sweden and Finland.
It’s mid August and summer is officially over – all
the youth hostels and campsites are beginning to close. Fortunately
they find a pitch on a very pleasant site by the river Torne.
Now read on…

They raised about £2,500 on the first leg of the trip but
donations have been thin for the Italian stage – perhaps
that sounded too much like a good time!
